Cervical cancer

Abdomen & Pelvis

Cervical cancer develops in the cells lining the cervix and is closely linked to human papillomavirus infection. It can develop gradually over many years. An MRI may show changes in the cervix that could be associated with abnormal tissue growth. Finding signs of cervical cancer early may allow for treatment before it spreads beyond the cervix. Cervical screening and colposcopy are the primary tools for cervical cancer detection, however MRI is the preferred modality for staging.
