Cirrhosis is an advanced stage of scarring of the liver caused by long-term liver damage. The liver gradually loses its ability to work properly. An MRI may show changes in liver texture and structure consistent with cirrhosis. Identifying liver scarring early allows for management of the underlying cause and monitoring for complications.
