Colorectal cancer develops in the colon or rectum and is one of the most common cancers. It can grow slowly over many years before causing symptoms. An MRI may show changes in the bowel lining or surrounding tissue that could be associated with a mass. Finding colorectal cancer early, when it is localised, may greatly improve the chance of successful treatment. Colonoscopy is the primary screening tool for colorectal cancer, however MRI is valuable for staging and assessing spread.
