Gallstones are hardened deposits that form in the gallbladder. Many people have them without ever knowing, while others experience pain or complications. An MRI may show changes in the gallbladder consistent with the presence of stones. Finding gallstones early allows for dietary management and monitoring that may help reduce the risk of complications such as inflammation or blockage. Ultrasound is generally the preferred first-line tool for gallstone detection, however MRI may show gallbladder changes.
