Gastric volvulus

Abdomen & Pelvis

Gastric volvulus is an abnormal rotation of the stomach that can cause it to become blocked or twisted. Ongoing intermittent forms can cause vague symptoms for years before a diagnosis is made. An MRI may show an abnormal position or orientation of the stomach consistent with volvulus. Finding gastric volvulus early may allow for surgical correction before it causes acute obstruction or strangulation.
