Hepatic metastases

Abdomen & Pelvis
Whole Body Systems

The liver is one of the most common sites for cancer to spread from tumours elsewhere in the body. Hepatic metastases are more often found in people with a known primary cancer, but can occasionally be discovered unexpectedly in someone with no prior cancer diagnosis. An MRI may show changes in liver tissue that could be consistent with secondary deposits. Finding hepatic metastases early may allow for faster staging and treatment planning before widespread liver involvement occurs. MRI is highly effective at characterising liver lesions and is a preferred modality for assessing hepatic metastases due to its superior soft tissue contrast.
