Hereditary spastic paraplegia is a group of inherited conditions causing worsening weakness and stiffness of the legs from spinal cord degeneration. An MRI may show changes in the spinal cord consistent with worsening degeneration. Finding spinal cord changes associated with hereditary spastic paraplegia allows for monitoring and supportive management.
