Hydroureter is a widening of the ureter, the tube that carries urine from the kidney to the bladder, usually caused by a blockage further along. It can develop gradually without obvious symptoms. An MRI may show a widened ureter consistent with a blockage. Finding hydroureter early allows for investigation into the cause and treatment that may help prevent kidney damage.
