An insulinoma is a tumour of the pancreas that produces excess insulin, causing low blood sugar. Most are noncancerous and small. An MRI may show a small mass in the pancreas consistent with an insulinoma. Finding an insulinoma early may allow for surgical removal before recurrent hypoglycaemic episodes cause neurological harm. MRI is a preferred modality for localising insulinomas due to its superior soft tissue contrast for small pancreatic lesions.
