Ischaemic colitis

Abdomen & Pelvis
Blood Vessels & Circulation

Ischaemic colitis happens when blood flow to part of the colon is reduced, causing inflammation and injury to the bowel lining. Forms that come back again and again can develop gradually. An MRI may show changes in the colon lining consistent with injury from reduced blood flow. Finding signs of ischaemic colitis prompts investigation into the underlying vascular cause, and management that may help reduce the risk of recurrence.
