Lipodystrophy is a condition involving abnormal distribution or loss of body fat. It can be genetic or acquired and is linked to metabolic complications. An MRI may show characteristic changes in fat distribution consistent with lipodystrophy. Finding lipodystrophy early may allow for management of associated metabolic complications including diabetes and liver disease.
