Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions including abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and abnormal cholesterol levels. MRI can identify several of its signs including visceral fat, fatty liver, and vascular changes. An MRI may show changes in body composition and organs consistent with metabolic syndrome. Identifying metabolic syndrome markers early allows for lifestyle and medical intervention that may help reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease, or stroke.
