Ovarian endometrioma

Abdomen & Pelvis

An ovarian endometrioma, sometimes called a chocolate cyst, is a type of cyst that forms on the ovary as a result of endometriosis. It contains old blood and can affect how the ovary works. An MRI may show a characteristic cystic mass on the ovary consistent with an endometrioma. Finding an ovarian endometrioma early may allow for treatment to help preserve fertility and manage pain before further ovarian damage occurs.
