A pelvic abscess is a collection of infected material within the pelvis. It can develop from various causes including bowel or gynaecological infections. An MRI may show a fluid collection in the pelvis consistent with an abscess. Finding a pelvic abscess early may allow for prompt treatment before it causes serious systemic infection.
