A pituitary cyst is a fluid-filled sac that develops in or near the pituitary gland, a small gland at the base of the brain that controls many of the body's hormones. Most are harmless and found unexpectedly on imaging. An MRI may show a cystic structure in the pituitary region as an incidental finding. Finding a pituitary cyst allows for monitoring to help ensure it remains stable and does not affect hormone function over time.
