Polycystic ovary syndrome is a hormonal condition that affects the ovaries, causing them to develop many small fluid-filled sacs. It is very common and often linked to irregular periods and hormonal changes. An MRI may show changes in ovarian appearance consistent with PCOS. Identifying PCOS early allows for hormonal management and lifestyle changes that may help reduce long-term health risks. Ultrasound is generally the preferred first-line tool for PCOS assessment, however MRI may show relevant changes.
