Rectal cancer

Abdomen & Pelvis

Rectal cancer develops in the last section of the large intestine and may cause no early symptoms. An MRI may show changes in the rectal lining or surrounding tissue that could be associated with a mass. Finding rectal cancer early, when it is localised, may significantly improve treatment outcomes and reduce the need for extensive surgery. MRI is the gold standard for rectal cancer staging and local assessment once diagnosed.
