Retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy is a condition where the lymph nodes behind the abdominal cavity grow too large. It can happen from infection, inflammation, or as a sign of lymphoma or metastatic cancer. An MRI may show enlarged lymph nodes in the retroperitoneal region, the area behind the main abdominal cavity. Identifying enlarged retroperitoneal lymph nodes prompts investigation into the underlying cause.
