Retroperitoneal sarcoma

Whole Body Systems
Abdomen & Pelvis

Retroperitoneal sarcomas are malignant tumours that develop in the fat and connective tissue behind the abdominal cavity. They can grow very large before causing symptoms. An MRI may show a large soft tissue mass in this region consistent with a sarcoma. Finding a retroperitoneal sarcoma early, when it is smaller, may significantly improve surgical outcomes.
