Sclerosing mesenteritis

Abdomen & Pelvis

Sclerosing mesenteritis is a rare condition where the tissue that supports and connects the small bowel, known as the mesentery, becomes inflamed and gradually replaced by scar tissue. It usually causes no symptoms in its early stages and is most often found unexpectedly on imaging. An MRI may show thickening and changes in the mesentery consistent with this condition. Finding sclerosing mesenteritis early allows for monitoring and management that may help prevent bowel complications from developing as the condition progresses.
