A splenic abscess is a collection of infected material within the spleen. It is uncommon but can develop from various causes including bloodstream infections. An MRI may show changes in the spleen consistent with an abscess. Finding a splenic abscess early may allow for prompt treatment before it causes serious systemic infection.
