Systemic sclerosis

Whole Body Systems

Systemic sclerosis, also known as scleroderma, is an autoimmune condition that causes hardening and tightening of skin and connective tissues throughout the body. It can affect internal organs including the lungs, heart, and kidneys. An MRI may show changes in affected organs consistent with fibrosis. Identifying systemic sclerosis early may allow for treatment to help slow organ involvement before significant damage occurs.
