A urachal anomaly is a remnant of the connection between the bladder and the belly button that normally closes before birth. Most are harmless and found unexpectedly on imaging. An MRI may show a structure between the bladder and the abdominal wall consistent with a urachal remnant. Finding a urachal anomaly allows for monitoring, as some types carry a small risk of infection or malignant change.
