Ureteral stone

Abdomen & Pelvis

A ureteral stone is a kidney stone that has moved into the ureter, the tube connecting the kidney to the bladder. It can cause severe pain or go unnoticed depending on its size. An MRI may show changes in the ureter consistent with a blockage from a stone. Finding a ureteral stone early may allow for treatment before it causes kidney damage or infection. CT is the preferred tool for kidney stone assessment, however MRI can show associated ureteral changes and obstruction.
